Busy Bag Highlight: Trace-A-Shape Game

by Brenda

Trace-A-Shape Game
Age Level: Adv. 2 yr. - 5 yrs.
{can be played alone or with teamwork}

Bag Contents:
Laminated Game Board (or slide the game board into a sheet protector)
Game Cards (print on cardstock)
Dry Erase Marker (or washable crayon)
The idea of this game is pretty simple.
Pile the cards upside down within reach of your kidlet. Might as well start with a messy pile, since it will get "messed up" anyway.
Instruct them to take a card and flip it over. Let them name the shape and find a matching shape on the game board. Once they've located the shape, they can trace it.
This activity will not only give your child a chance to learn and practice shapes, but also get in some good motor skills.

(If you have a perfectionist child, this may be a challenge to them. They may become frustrated if the card pile does not stay perfectly stacked. They may also get frustrated if they cannot trace the lines perfectly. Just assure them that the pile is supposed to be messy. That's the way the game goes. And their tracing is never "wrong" if they did their best. Perfection is not about no mistakes, but it's about doing as well as you can. If it continues to be a source of frustration, put the game away and come back to it in a couple months.)
